Sugar is a major contributor to the obesity epidemic. In order to lose weight and keep it off, people need to consume less sugar and more healthy fats.
What to eat when you’re craving sweets is a question that has been asked by many people. There are many ways to satisfy your sweet tooth without going overboard on sugar, including fruit and vegetables.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 34.2 million Americans – slightly over one in ten – have been diagnosed with diabetes, and 88 million people – almost one in three – have prediabetes in 2020. Wow!!! What does this imply for our health in the future? How can we begin to comprehend and make adjustments in order to be healthy in the future?
Let’s take a moment to discuss the average American diet and its effects on our bodies. Americans currently eat an average of 156 pounds of added sugar each year, according to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Only approximately 29 pounds of that comes in the form of sugar added to our daily coffee, according to The Sugar Association, a trade organization of sugar producers. Candy, soda, and junk food account for the remaining 127 pounds of sugar consumption. Foods like crackers, bread, yogurt, peanut butter, ketchup, and other condiments may all have added sugar.
According to the World Health Organization, we should consume no more than 6 teaspoons (25 grams) of sugar each day. Keep in mind that one (1) 12 oz normal soda has eight teaspoons of sugar in it. According to the typical American’s sugar consumption, we consume 193 grams of sugar each day. That’s almost 8 times the daily sugar allowance.
